Early Blue Spongeware Stoneware Bowl Scalloped Design
Nice, early spongeware bowl. This bowl is smaller, measuring 7 1/4 inches in diameter at the rim and 2 2/3 inches tall. We have two of the same bowl available, but because their conditions differ, we listed the other bowl separately. This bowl has lighter blue sponging, than the other has. The bowl has sort of a scalloped design on the outside, ripples running vertical. As for condition, this bowl has the typical glaze pops from manufacture. It has wear that appears on the bottom rim from use. There is a fine 1/4 inch line on the edge of the bowl that appears to be from the making and next to that is a small chip on the rim (see photo).
Overall, nice shape for a bowl of its age! To view our full line of spongeware and antique pottery, visit Trostle's Antiques, Furniture & Fine Consignments in Gettysburg, PA or inquire about other pieces available!
